Tech items for your next flight

Here are some of our favorite tech items for your next flight:

1. When traveling on long flights it’s vital to have entertainment. We love to watch movies together while on planes, timing hitting the “Play” button exactly at the same moment on each of our tv screens… cheesy we know! 🙂 Or we might just relax with some music or a podcast. For this, our favorite headphones are:

Bose Headphones 700, Noise Cancelling, Bluetooth, Over-Ear Wireless Headphones

and

Apple AirPods Wireless Ear Buds, Bluetooth Headphones with Lightning Charging Case

2. While we usually crank through a few movies or shows on the built-in airline televisions on long flights, that can sometimes be a problem if you only have wireless earbuds or wireless headphones, as most airlines have pretty outdated entertainment systems with standard headphone jack plug-ins… And you definitely don’t want to have to rely on the horrible headphones that the airline provides. Their sound is pretty poor quality and can be uncomfortable for long flights. And not all airlines are so generous to even offer a pair. What we recommend bringing is:

Bluetooth Wireless Audio Transmitter Receiver for Wireless Headphones

This is a wireless Bluetooth connecter that will ensure your headphones connect to their airlines’ tv. (These are also helpful for gym equipment or older tablets that only have a 3.5 mm audio jack port.) It’s super easy to pack into your carryon. I just keep mine in my Bose headphones case so that I always have it with me.

You just plug it into your seat’s jack, turn it on, and pair it with your headphone’s blue tooth. You can also use it to control the volume, which is far easier than messing with the plane’s tv touch screen. It also frees you from getting tangled up in the headphone wires, especially as other passengers ask to get past you mid-flight.

3. We also love to share a podcast or a downloaded Netflix show from the same device. For instances like this, we use this headphone splitter:

Headphone Splitter, Nylon-Braided Extension Cable Y Splitter

This little device is super helpful for watching those shows together and is great for shorter flights where there may not be built-in seatback tv’s like on international flights. Just be sure to download your podcasts and shows ahead of time, as airplane wifi may not be fast enough to stream, or you may be charged a fee. Also update your airline’s app before boarding the plane so that you can access their entertainment before losing signal.

4. Be sure to also include your cell phone charger cord, as most airplane seats have power outlets at your seat (or you can charge up in the airport on layovers).

5. Always throw an Apple AirTag into your suitcase to be able to see where it is, particularly handy for locating any lost luggage!

6. Lastly, if you’re traveling internationally, we highly recommend that you download the Airalo app, a digital eSIM card for your cell phone to stay connected while abroad. It’s super easy to use and saves on those big international roaming fees or spendy data plans through your cell carrier. We’ve used it all over the world!
